A water sourced in La Roche-Posay

In the heart of a French village lies a thermal spring water with beneficial properties for the skin.
La Roche-Posay is a little village located in the centre of the French region of La Vienne. Its world fame is due to its Selenium-rich spring water, which is particularly beneficial to the skin.

The legend of the spring

Legend has it that Bertrand Du Guesclin, high constable under the reign of Charles V, discovered the La Roche-Posay springs on his way home from Spanish campaigns at the end of the 14th century. He stopped at the spring to quench his thirst. His horse, which suffered from eczema, plunged into the water and came out cured. This is the start of the beautiful story of a water unlike any other...

A water officially recognised by the state since the 17th century

From 1617, the therapeutic reputation of La Roche-Posay thermal spring water was such that Pierre Milon, doctor to Henry IV and Louis XIII, went there to conduct the first analyses.
Napoleon, then General Bonaparte, on his return from Egypt at the beginning of the 19th century, had a thermal hospital built there to treat his soldiers' skin diseases.
In 1897, the site was officially recognised by the French Academy of Medicine.
In 1905, the first Thermal Centre was opened.
In 1913, the French Academy of Medicine officially declared La Roche-Posay a Spa Town.
