Firmness
Firmness is one of the defining characteristics of youthful skin. It is provided by the dermis, which acts as a cushion for the skin, and its collagen and elastin fibres. When young, the skin is firm and toned. With age, the dermal cells deteriorate and the fibres become looser: the skin loses its firmness.
