Testimonies

“I use spa therapy to treat my psoriasis.”

Isabelle, 38, chartered accountant in France

As an adolescent, Isabelle had several outbreaks of psoriasis. Then, it stopped for 10 years. Her psoriasis finally came back after a highly stressful period in her life. For Isabelle, spa therapy has been highly beneficial in treating her skin disorder.

Context

Isabelle, when did you have your first outbreak of psoriasis?

During my teens, if I remember well. I started to get red scaly patches on my knees and a few on my elbows. My mother took me to see a dermatologist and the red patches went away rather quickly. I don’t remember it being too bothersome.

Symptoms

Have you had other outbreaks?

My psoriasis went away for at least 10 years. I even started to forget that I had had it as a teenager. And then, one day, the red patches came back. But, this time, they were really visible. They covered my entire elbows and knees. I even had some on my stomach. The worst were the patches on my face. This outbreak lasted for months. I was so uncomfortable that I constantly kept myself covered up as much as possible. Generally speaking, the skin on my face felt rough and granular. Apparently, it was stress that triggered the outbreak.

The solution

Were you able to get rid of these scaly patches?

I applied creams and also underwent phototherapy sessions. However, the spa therapy that my doctor prescribed was the most effective in treating the disease. I had special baths, showers and poultice applications for three weeks. My red patches became whiter and smaller and my skin was softer and not as rough. I still have regular outbreaks, but they tend to be less severe. Every year or two, I return to the spa for a treatment. This is how I treat my psoriasis. What I really like about the spa is that they also teach us how to relax and manage our stress.
