Could connected devices be
the future of sun protection?

Discover the 1st connected stretchable UV patch.
Ultra-thin, ultra-water resistant and adapted to sensitive skin, it works with My UV Patch app to provide you with personalized recommendation when you are exposed to sun.

What is My UV Patch?

The La Roche-Posay My UV Patch is the first-ever stretchable, ultra-thin wearable skin sensor designed to measure UV exposure. The patch is able to measure UV exposure with a specific technology. My UV Patch is connected to My UV Patch smartphone app which translates UV measurement into comprehensible messages about your behavior and your daily sunstock. My UV Patch is connected to a smartphone app and it is a tool used to educate you on the amount of UV exposure your skin is receiving and offer tips on sun-safer behavior.

How is My UV Patch helpful to you?

My UV Patch is a first-to-market technology that will tell you about your sun exposure and help you protect yourself better and play safer under the sun. Over-exposure to UV radiation can cause skin pigmentation issues, photo aging and even skin cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, and more than 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to skin aging are caused by the sun.

What does it look like?

My UV Patch is ultra-thin (about the thickness of a human hair fiber); a stretchable and breathable sticker that is approximately one square inch and 100 micrometers thick. The patch is designed with a heart filled with various shades of blue and white squares, which contain photosensitive dye.

What are the characteristics of My UV Patch?

My UV Patch is the first stretchable electronic that uses photo-oxidised dye. This can be scanned and analysed by My UV Patch app. It's a totally new way of measuring UV in an accurate way. Stretchable means that is has similar mechanical properties to your skin and it flexes and stretches together with your skin.

Unlike most other wearable UV stickers on the market that provide qualitative visual data, My UV Patch provides quantitative data to assess UV exposure. For the first time, My UV Patch factors in perceived skin tone and existing sunscreen application to accurately estimate personal UV risk. Through My UV Patch app, you will be better informed about your individual UV exposure.

How does it work?

As the photosensitive dyes within the patch are exposed to UV rays, they change color. This color change is then quantified by the app and the personal UV dose is calculated. The app takes into account your unique skin tone and provides unique personal UV exposure information. The My UV Patch app is designed to encourage sun-safer behavior

Do you have to manually perform a scan of the patch?

Yes. To facilitate the process, the app integrates a technology that enables an automatic scan once it has detected the shape of the heart.

How many days can you wear it?

For best performance, we recommend up to 3 day usage.

Where should you put it?

The patch can adhere directly to any area of skin that consumers want to monitor. To achieve the most accurate reading, it is recommended that the waterproof sensor be worn on the back of the hand for up to three days

Can you apply sunscreen on the patch?

Yes, along with applying sunscreen to your exposed skin 15 minutes before sun exposure, the sunscreen should also be applied to the patch. This way the patch will be able to accurately measure the amount of UV exposure on your sunscreen-protected skin. It's important to first scan the patch right before going outside and then the app will explain what sunscreen product to use and when to reapply the sunscreen. The idea was to offer a tool that is both very easy to use and educational at the same time.

Can you participate in outdoor activities with the patch?

Yes. The patch will work during all outdoor activities including running, swimming or other sporting events.

Does My UV Patch factor in location and time of day?

Yes. When you scan the patch into the app, it factors in your location and time of day

Does the app tell you when to reapply sunscreen and provide product recommendations?

Yes it does. The app was also designed to provide you with information about your personal UV exposure and offer lifestyle tips to encourage sun-safer behavior.

Can it monitor UV exposure on areas that aren't just skin e.g. hair?

Is it physically reading info from the skin?

It reads the amount of UV that hits the skin and as the patch is so thin, it is essentially the same as the skin itself.

Has the patch been tested on children?

Does it interfere with any implanted medical devices (like a pacemaker), skin conditions or topical medications?

La Roche-Posay recommends applying the My UV Patch on healthy skin only that is not undergoing any treatment. It has not been tested the interactions with topical drugs or medical devices.

Is My UV Patch occlusive? Can the skin breathe with it?

The patch is permeable so it does not result in skin occlusion.

Will the patch leave a pale mark on the skin?

No, not if you apply the appropriate amount sunscreen to the skin and the patch.
