With strong expertise in treating atopic skin, the La Roche-Posay Dermatological Laboratory presents LIPIKAR, a range of products suitable for sensitive, atopy-prone skin. More than just products, this skincare range helps to improve the quality of life not only of children affected by this pathology, but also their families.

ATOPY: WHAT IS IT?

Atopy, or atopic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory pathology of the skin that causes severe itching. Genetic predisposition and environmental factors appear to be the cause of this extreme sensitivity to allergens (pollution, dust mites, pets, etc.) Variations in temperature, humidity and stress can also exacerbate this phenomenon and trigger outbreaks.
On a day-to-day basis atopic skin is permanently uncomfortable, irritated and sometimes painful. It sometimes even seems "foreign". And when it starts to itch, the reflex action is to scratch it. However, although scratching may provide temporary relief, it can also lead to the deterioration of the cutaneous barrier that protects the epidermis. Once damaged, the latter can no longer fulfill its role of defending and protecting the skin against external stress. As a result, the itching becomes worse. Thus begins a vicious circle.

Social and psychological anxiety

When a child has atopic skin, the whole family feels the effects:

  • 58% of atopic children experience disturbed sleep*,
  • 31% of parents state that they make changes to their everyday life**,
  • 85% of parents feel that their child's illness has an impact on their own emotional state***.

LA ROCHE-POSAY'S THREE COMMITMENTS TO COMBATING ATOPY

1 – Providing you with revolutionary active ingredients to treat atopy comprehensively: Aqua Posae Filiformis, a new, exclusive and patented active ingredient contained in LIPIKAR Baume AP+ acts on the two determining factors of atopy-prone skin: the microbiome and the cutaneous barrier.  As a result of this dual action, LIPIKAR Baume AP+ provides immediate relief and decreases the frequency of bouts of severe dryness, resulting in longer-lasting skin comfort.

2 – Helping you rediscover the joys of bathing: Washing thoroughly is a crucial step in caring for atopic skin. In order to meet the specific needs of atopic skin, the La Roche-Posay Dermatological Laboratory has developed LIPIKAR Syndet, a soap-free hypoallergenic preparation ("a soap-free soap! ") enriched with a lipid-replenishing complex that cleanses without harming, to protect the skin against the drying effects of water and soothe irritation.

Our advice: For better absorption of active ingredients, apply dermocorticoid creams and emollients prescribed by your dermatologist within 10 minutes of bathing.

3 – Supporting you to break the isolation: With over 80 atopy schools throughout the world, La Roche-Posay is investing in improving the quality of life of atopic children. Together with their parents, they can take part in workshops on how to apply ointment, where they learn how to take care of their skin. They receive advice about how to avoid scratching their skin and learn effective techniques for applying ointment.

Discover LIPIKAR, the range dedicated to the treatment of very dry and atopic skin, for the whole family.
